Leave a Legacy
Consider Planned Giving
Legacy Giving
Planning your legacy is about ensuring a brighter future for your family while supporting your community long after you are gone. For many of our Auburn Interfaith Food Closet donors, legacy giving is a perfect way to express support for hunger relief in Placer County. Legacy gifts are mostly used as long-term mission impact resources. However, your generosity will lift our neighbors in need today and raise public awareness for tomorrow, while supporting long-term solutions for good.
Legacy gifts often provide financial benefits to the donor, including tax savings, cash payments, and supplemental support for family and friends – these and other benefits are available depending on a donor’s life circumstances and final wishes. When considering making a legacy gift, the advice of an attorney, accountant, estate planner, financial adviser and/or tax expert should always be obtained.

Legacy Planning
A legacy gift is the result of a donor’s careful consideration of several important factors.
- Purpose or intent of the gift (family values and philanthropic plans)
- Types of family assets used to fund the gift
- Timing of the gift
- Impact of the gift on your family tax obligations
- Impact of the gift on your family members.
Types of Planned Gifts
Endowment Fund
A gift to the Auburn Interfaith Food Closet Endowment Fund establishes a lifetime bond between you and your neighbors who are in need and who suffer from hunger.
A gift can be made today at any level, or it can be part of your final wishes, knowing your final legacy gift will help feed our most vulnerable seniors, children, and working families long after you are gone. The Auburn Interfaith Food Closet’s Endowment Fund is a professionally managed, permanent fund, where the principal amount is never spent and continues to grow with each donor gift, regardless of the gift amount.
We invite you to explore Endowment Fund gift opportunities at the Auburn Interfaith Food Closet if you are ready to help end hunger for good.

Bequests
This most frequently used planned gift is fully tax deductible for estate tax purposes. A bequest is a written statement in your will or trust directing specific assets or an amount, percentage, or remainder of your estate, to be transferred to the Endowment Fund upon your death.
Charitable Lead Trusts
This is a way to pass significant wealth to your heirs at minimal or no transfer tax cost, while making immediate gifts to Auburn Interfaith Food Closet.
Retirement Plans & IRA Beneficiaries
These can be subject to both income and estate taxes, greatly limiting the amount available for heirs. You can designate Auburn Interfaith Food Closet as the beneficiary, which allows you to make a sizable gift and qualify for an unlimited estate tax charitable deduction.
Life Insurance Policy Beneficiary
You may donate a new policy or designate Auburn Interfaith Food Closet as the beneficiary and/or owner of an existing policy. This is an excellent way to make a sizable gift with a minimal outlay of cash.
Life Income Gifts
Charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts offer an immediate income tax deduction and lifetime income payments. If your gift is funded with appreciated securities or real estate, you may also avoid capital gains taxes.
Donor Advise Funds
A donor advised fund, which is like a charitable savings account, gives you the flexibility to recommend how much and how often money is granted to Auburn Interfaith Food Closet and other qualified charities. You can recommend a grant or recurring grants now to make an immediate impact or use your fund as a tool for future charitable gifts.
In deciding which type of Planned Gift is best for you, it is always recommended that you seek the advice of an attorney, accountant, estate planner, financial adviser and/or tax expert
